Terms of service
Last updated: 2 October 2026
The short version
- DealDetective is run by JimJak Ltd. By creating an account or using the extension, you agree to these terms.
- Scout is free with monthly limits. Inspector and Detective are monthly subscriptions that renew until you cancel. Cancel any time from Plan & Usage; you keep your plan until the end of the month you've paid for.
- DealDetective gives estimates, not advice. Its figures depend on what you enter and on fees, rates and supplier details that change. Always check them before you buy stock.
- Your saved products and settings are yours. You can export them at any time.
- Please use DealDetective fairly: one account per person, no attempts to get round plan limits, and no misuse of the service or the websites the extension works on.

1. About these terms
These terms apply to DealDetective: the website at ddec.co.uk, the web app, and the DealDetective browser extension (together, the "service"). The service is provided by JimJak Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). You can contact us at contact@ddec.co.uk.
By creating an account, subscribing to a plan or using the extension, you agree to these terms. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal data and forms part of how we provide the service. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use DealDetective.
DealDetective is designed for people buying and selling products as a business, including sole traders. If you're using it as a consumer, section 12 explains the extra rights you have.
Early access. DealDetective is new and we're improving it based on feedback. Some features may be labelled as coming soon, may change, or may not yet work on every supplier website. We'll always try to tell you about significant changes in advance.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or over and able to enter into a contract.
- Give us accurate details and keep your email address up to date, as we use it for sign-in, receipts and important notices.
- Keep your password secure and don't share your account. Each account is for one person. You're responsible for what happens in your account unless it's caused by our failure to keep the service secure.
- Tell us straight away at contact@ddec.co.uk if you think someone else has used your account.
3. Plans, payment and cancelling
Plans
We currently offer:
- Scout: free, with a monthly limit on product analyses, saved products and browser-extension pages.
- Inspector and Detective: paid monthly subscriptions with higher or no limits and extra features.
What each plan includes, its limits and its price are shown on our website and in the app on the Plan & Usage page. Monthly allowances reset at the start of each calendar month and unused allowance doesn't carry over. A browser-extension "page" is one supplier product or search page scored with the extension; opening a page you've already scored that month again doesn't use another.
Payment
- Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe. We don't see or store your full card details.
- Prices are in pounds sterling. Any VAT that applies is shown at checkout.
- Subscriptions are charged monthly in advance, starting on the day you subscribe, and renew automatically each month until you cancel.
- If you change plan part-way through a month, Stripe works out the difference for the rest of that month and shows it to you before you confirm.
- If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it for a short period. If it still can't be taken, your account moves to the free Scout plan; your saved products stay, but the free plan's limits apply.
Cancelling
- You can cancel any time from Plan & Usage → Manage billing. Your paid plan continues until the end of the month you've already paid for, and you then move to Scout. You won't be charged again.
- We don't give refunds for part-months or unused allowance, except where the law requires it (see section 12) or where we've made a mistake.
Price changes
We may change our prices. If we change the price of your plan, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before your first payment at the new price, so you can cancel first if you wish.
4. Estimates, not advice
DealDetective helps you work out whether a product could be worth buying and selling. It's important you understand what it does and doesn't do:
- Its figures (including landed cost, fees, profit, ROI, margin, break-even price, max buy price and verdicts such as "Potential Deal") are estimates. They're calculated from the information you enter or that's read from supplier and marketplace pages, and from default assumptions, fees, duty rates and exchange rates that you can change and that change over time.
- Supplier prices, minimum orders, delivery times, marketplace fees, duty and VAT rules, and exchange rates can be wrong, out of date or different for your circumstances. Information read from third-party websites may be incomplete or misread.
- DealDetective isn't financial, investment, tax, accounting, legal, customs or regulatory advice, and a "Potential Deal" verdict isn't a recommendation to buy.
- You're responsible for your buying and selling decisions and for checking figures with suppliers, marketplaces, carriers and your own advisers before you commit money. You're also responsible for making sure the products you source and sell are legal, safe, correctly labelled, don't infringe anyone's rights, and comply with marketplace rules and UK import, product safety and tax requirements.
5. Using DealDetective fairly
You agree not to:
- create more than one account, or share accounts, to get round plan limits;
- copy, resell, rent or provide DealDetective to others, or use it to build a competing product;
- scrape, data-mine or use automated tools to access the service, except as the extension is designed to work;
- try to reverse engineer, decompile or interfere with the service, its security or other users' accounts, except where the law allows;
- use the service for anything unlawful, fraudulent or harmful, or to upload anything malicious or that infringes someone else's rights;
- use the import feature or the extension in a way that breaks the terms of the websites you use them on, or that puts an unreasonable load on those websites or on our systems.
6. The browser extension and other websites
The extension works on supported supplier and marketplace websites, reading the page you're viewing to work out the figures (see our privacy notice). DealDetective is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Amazon, Alibaba, Faire or any other website it works with, and their names and trademarks belong to their owners.
Because those websites are run by others and change without notice, the extension or link import may stop working on a site, or read it incorrectly, until we update it. We can't guarantee that any particular website will keep working with DealDetective. You're responsible for complying with those websites' own terms when you use them.
Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We're not responsible for their content, products or services.
7. Your data
The products, notes, settings and other information you put into DealDetective remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them only so we can provide, secure and improve the service for you, as described in our privacy notice. You can export your saved products at any time from Saved Products.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, you agree we may use them to improve DealDetective without owing you anything for them.
8. Our service and brand
DealDetective, including its software, design, text, calculations and branding, belongs to us or our licensors. While you have an account and follow these terms, we give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the service for your own business. You may not use our name, logo or branding without our written permission.
9. Availability and changes
- We work to keep DealDetective available and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted, error-free or available at a particular time. We may need to pause it for maintenance, updates or reasons outside our control.
- Keep your own copy of anything important; you can export your saved products as a spreadsheet at any time.
- We may change, add or remove features to improve the service or to meet legal or security needs. If a change significantly reduces what your paid plan includes, we'll tell you in advance and you can cancel; if you've paid for a month you can't then use as described, we'll refund the unused part.
10. Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using DealDetective at any time. To close your account and delete your data, email contact@ddec.co.uk; cancel any paid subscription first from Manage billing.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if you don't pay, if we're required to by law, or to protect the service or other users. Where reasonable, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem and to export your data. If we close the whole service, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and refund any payment for time you can't use.
When an account is closed, we delete its data as set out in our privacy notice. Sections 4, 7 (feedback), 8, 11 and 13 continue to apply after your account closes.
11. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that can't be limited or excluded by law.
Subject to that, if you use DealDetective for business purposes:
- we're not liable for loss of profit, revenue, sales, business, contracts, goodwill or anticipated savings, for losses from buying, selling or holding stock, or for any indirect or consequential loss, however caused;
- we're not liable for losses caused by inaccurate or incomplete information on third-party websites, or by information or assumptions you entered or chose;
- if data is lost or corrupted through our fault, our responsibility is to restore it from our most recent backup where we can;
- our total liability to you for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
The service is provided as described in these terms. Any terms implied by law about quality or fitness for purpose are excluded to the extent the law allows for business users.
12. If you're a consumer
If you use DealDetective wholly or mainly for purposes outside your trade, business or profession, you're a consumer and you have legal rights that these terms don't take away. In particular:
- We must provide the service with reasonable care and skill, and as described. If we don't, you can ask us to put it right or, in some cases, to refund some or all of what you paid.
- Cancelling a new subscription: you have 14 days from the day you first subscribe to a paid plan to change your mind. Because the service starts as soon as you subscribe, at your request, if you cancel within those 14 days we'll refund what you paid minus a fair amount for the time you had the paid plan. To do this, email contact@ddec.co.uk.
- We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that's a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. As DealDetective is designed for business use, we're not responsible for business losses such as lost profit or the cost of stock.
For more about your rights, contact Citizens Advice.
13. General
- Changes to these terms. We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll show the date of the latest version at the top. For significant changes, we'll tell account holders by email or in the app at least 30 days before they apply to you; if you don't agree, you can cancel before then.
- Transfer. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation, for example if our business is sold; we'll tell you and it won't reduce your rights. You may not transfer your account or rights without our written agreement.
- Events outside our control. We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as outages at our hosting, database or payment providers, or changes to third-party websites.
- Whole agreement. These terms, with our privacy notice and the plan details shown when you subscribe, are the whole agreement between you and us about DealDetective.
- If part of these terms isn't valid, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- Third parties. Nobody other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.
- Law and courts. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
